Espace Catastrophe, the International Creation Centre for Circus Arts, which has been based in the Anciennes Glacières in Saint-Gilles since 1995, is moving to the former Delhaize site in Molenbeek-Saint-Jean, Belgium. This new location should enable the Circus Centre to provide Brussels with an emblematic centre and meet the growing needs of a booming sector.

Espace Catastrophe is moving into a building offering 6,000m2 of usable indoor and outdoor space. This new site will enable the team to redeploy an even more ambitious project. It will house work spaces dedicated to creation, performance, training and social cohesion. It will have spaces shared with resident projects and will of course remain a place for exchanges around related artistic practices and forms: urban arts, digital arts, multimedia, new magic, theatre, dance, etc.

The project will also offer opportunities for all kinds of audiences, circus-goers and non-circus-goers alike: a bar/restaurant, urban vegetable garden, community activities, etc. The esplanade will accommodate circus tents and will be a testing ground for artistic expression in public spaces: open-air circus techniques, urban arts, parkour, slackline, vertical dance, etc. It will be an area of innovation open to audiences and artists from all over the world.

 

 

L’Espace Catastrophe, Centre International de Création des Arts du Cirque, installé depuis 1995 dans les Anciennes Glacières à Saint-Gilles, déménage sur l’ancien site Delhaize à Molenbeek-Saint-Jean, en Belgique. Une nouvelle implantation qui doit permettre au Centre scénique circassien de doter Bruxelles d’un pôle emblématique et de répondre aux besoins grandissants d’un secteur en plein boom.

L’Espace Catastrophe s’installe dans un bâtiment qui propose 6.000m2 de surfaces utiles, intérieures et extérieures. Ce nouveau site permettra à l’équipe de redéployer un projet encore plus ambitieux. Il abritera des espaces de travail dédiés à la création, à la diffusionde spectacles, à l’entraînement, à la formation et à la cohésion sociale. Il disposera d’espaces partagés avec des projets résidents et restera évidemment un lieu d’échanges autour des pratiques et de formes artistiques connexes : arts urbains, arts numériques, multimédia, magie nouvelle, théâtre, danse…

Le projet proposera également des ouvertures vers tous les publics, circassiens ou non : bar/restaurant, potager urbain, activités citoyennes… L’esplanade permettra l’accueil de chapiteaux et sera le terrain d’essai d’expressions artistiques en espace public : techniques de cirque au grand air, arts urbains, parkours, slackline, danse verticale… Il constituera un territoire d’innovation ouvert aux publics et aux artistes du monde entier.
