In 1975, Les Halles began hosting, producing and showcasing the most unique and innovative practices in the performing arts.

It has contributed to the development and support of national and international networks of programmers and institutions while working to promote contemporary artistic creation in Europe. Les Halles mainly presents circus, dance and other performing arts performances and tied with all other existing artistic disciplines.

It showcases circus performances during its regular season and during the biennial festival, “Hors Pistes” (launched in 2001), supporting artists and young creators in tune with new forms and disciplines. Les Halles works closely with the École Supérieur des Arts du Cirque de Bruxelles (ESAC) and hosts the closing performance of the school's graduating class each year. It occasionally organises workshops that bring together students from the ESAC and established artists.
