4th edition of ECoC and Circus Arts seminar

Since 2011, Circostrada Network, HorsLesMurs and the Dutch festival Circo Circolo have been organising seminars to reflect on the integration of circus arts within European Capital of Culture programmes (ECoCs). 

The 4th edition took place in Marseille (France) on February 8-9 2015, in the frame of La Biennale Internationale des Arts du Cirque - a 1-month festival dedicated to contemporary circus and first event created during Marseille Provence 2013 - European Capital of Culture to be continued in the long-term.

Gathering together several past and future European capitals, this edition wanted to enhance the exchange of good practices, passing on the teaching of the last seminars and making recommendations for future ECoCs.

Moreover, it has been the opportunity to come back for the first time to a former ECoC and to witness the direct legacy of its flagship event "Cirque en Capitales", with the creation of the first Biennale Internationale des Arts du Cirque.

Following this, the network produces a new publication, presenting additional findings and examples to better understand the challenges and potential of circus arts within ECoCs.
