Studies

The Circostrada network regularly publishes the results of studies carried out on the circus and street art sectors as well as academic contributions commissioned by the network to deepen and develop our communal understanding.

Arts Writers & Circus Arts [vol. 2]

The network publishes articles written after the second residence for European critics, organized last May in Helsinki (Finland) thanks to Cirko Festival, the Finnish Circus Information Centre and Network New Nordic Circus Network. In continuation of the first residence, which was held in Paris in June 2009, this residency welcomed eight journalists from six countries, all specialists in theater and dance, and provided food for thought on the circus contemporary. Discussions, interviews with artists, public readings and performances have raised their interest in this sector.

Guides

Circostrada Network publishes directories and guides to facilitate the circulation of artistic works, the mobility of artists and cultural professionals and the access to literature relating to our sectors.

Circus and street arts - Artistic residency centres in Belgium

Circostrada Network has posted a series of directories, available to download, of artistic residency centres that are specialised in the street and circus arts, or that host artists from these sectors. These practical tools are available to teams and offer detailed information categorised by geographical area so as to assist in their search for existing opportunities, in the professionalisation of their practices and in the development of their international mobility.
We have received many responses to our call published on the website www.circostrada.org. This call was widely publicised by our partner organisations and we would like to thank them for taking the time to circulate and share the information within the required timeframe.
We also wish to ensure those using the databases that these files are regularly updated by our team and will be filled out as residency locations from within Europe and beyond express their interest. These practical tools will develop and improve thanks to the feedback that we receive from you.

Dossiers

The European professionals of the circus and street arts have often expressed a wish to have access to publications and documentary resources that are easily accessible and translated into several languages. The interviews held for the study The Circulation of street arts and circus artworks in Europe, and the thematic workshop “knowledge of and access to information” that took place as part of the European seminar Fresh Circus, allowed them to clearly formulate this wish. These resources are useful on many levels: beyond the necessary exposure given to artistic projects, they also serve to inform policymakers, institutions and sponsors on these innovative aesthetics. Circostrada Network turned to the French magazine Stradda to, every other month, translate into English and publish online thematic reports . We hope that these issues will participate in creating an easier circulation of ideas and artistic projects. We also hope that it will add to the overall debate and bring to light the great vitality of the circus and street arts.

Magie nouvelle, the emergence of a contemporary art

A new dossier of Stradda magazine is available in French and in English. The theme is Magie nouvelle, the emergence of a contemporary art and it is taken from Stradda number 16 from April 2010. These publications in English and in French are intended to improve access to the sectors’ resources and current events as well as to promote the exchange of ideas and increased awareness amongst cultural operators and other institutions.
